Description:

Opera Kelowna presents the intimate, soaring and heartrending story of real-life cello virtuoso Jacqueline du Pré. Composer Luna Pearl Woolf and librettist Royce Vavrek have structured the opera with inspiration from Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto.

In four acts, they take us from the heights of a virtuoso’s glamorous on-stage life through to the consequences of isolation brought on by chronic illness. Dora-winning Soprano Marnie Breckenridge and Grammy-winning cellist Matt Haimovitz perform the intertwined identities of a prodigy and her cello.

Experience an intimate portrayal of an extraordinary life: the thrill of reaching new musical heights, the dynamics of a famous love, the fear and navigation of a terrible diagnosis, and the fracturing of one’s closest relationship.
