Event:

Creative Writing Fall Book Launch

Date:

Thu, Oct 20th, 2022

Time:

7:00 pm to 8:30 pm

Description:

Join us at the Alternator Gallery to celebrate the launch of books from two writers from the UBCO Creative Writing Program:

Andrea Routley, MFA alumna
This Unlikely Soil, the sophomore collection from Lambda Literary Award finalist Andrea Routley, is a quintet of linked novellas exploring the failures of kindness and connection among a rural west-coast community of queer women. Funny, incisive and at turns heart-breaking, these stories assert a powerful new voice in contemporary Canadian fiction.

Marissa Thompson, CRWR student
Short story chapbook Taking Care of Dead Plants is a delicate, clear-eyed story about Nan, a beloved family member who voluntarily chooses a physician-assisted suicide, told from the point of view of Lucy, Nan’s young granddaughter. Nan and Lucy are bound by a shared love of plant-tending, and leafy vines become emblems of the tenacity and beauty of life.
