Event:

Alternator Critique Series

Date:

Sat, Aug 8th, 2020

Time:

12:00 pm to 2:00 pm

Description:

The Alternator rotates exhibitions the Main, Members’ and Window galleries, and Alternator Art Mart. This drop in critique is ideal for artists and the general public who are interested in engaging in critical discussions about the artwork presented in these spaces guided by Alternator staff, guest artists and curators.

Art criticism is the discussion or evaluation of visual art based on its aesthetics. It asks the viewer to consider the work that they are looking at critically, and question what the artist is trying to say, the art historical context in which the work exists and ultimately, how successful it is as a work of art.

Art criticism provides a framework through which to articulate, judge and explore the meaning of works of art that we experience.

The process of art criticism is valuable not only in learning how to look at other’s work, but also provides important lens through which to understand one’s own artistic practice. It is also the framework in which many galleries, (including contemporary art galleries) will evaluate work.

This drop in critique is ideal for artists and visitors who are interested in engaging in critical discussions about contemporary art in Kelowna.

This is a free event and open to the public. Coffee and snacks will be served.
