Event:

2020 Peace Walk

Date:

Sun, Apr 5th, 2020

Time:

1:00 pm to 2:00 pm

Description:

Everyone is welcome to join us as we intentionally and courageously choose to stand for peace, compassion and freedom during a walk along the waterfront in beautiful downtown Kelowna. This will be our 7th annual Peace Walk.

The Peace Walk marks the end of the Season for Nonviolence, which marks the 64 days between the anniversary of the assassinations of Gandhi on January 30 and Dr Martin Luther King Jr on April 4. The Season teaches that every person can move the world forward in the direction of peace through daily nonviolent choices and actions.

We encourage you to park at the Prospera or Rhapsody lots near the Dolphins fountain where you can meet our greeters between 12:30pm and 12:45pm to choose 2 'peace rocks' (1 to keep and 1 to give away). Cross Harmony Bridge, then turn left to the Island Stage. (Please allow 15 minutes to arrive at Island Stage on time for the 1pm start.)

Dr Deborah Gordon will preside over the Opening Ceremony, and Councillor Mohini Singh will read The Proclamation.

We'll sing songs of peace during our route along Simpson Walk towards Stuart Park. We'll share peace quotes, then head back to the Island Stage, where we'll close the event with a peace meditation facilitated by Dr Brett Wade at 1:45pm.

Feel free to bring a mat or chair for the meditation. (We will have someone staying at the stage during the walk, so you can leave it there till we return.)
