Description:

This workshop will explore techniques for carving the human head. Through caricature carving, it is easier to learn the intricacies of expressions and anatomy as they are exaggerated for effect. You will carve a 12"x3"x4" stave with a few caricature faces with different expressions. All tools and materials provided.

Lars Baggenstos started his apprenticeship as a wood sculptor at the Woodcarving School of the Canton of Bern (in Switzerland) in 2001. During the four years of his apprenticeship, he mastered ornament and animal carving as well as human sculpture. Lars then opened a studio at Lake Lucerne in the heart of the Swiss Alps. Since then he has worked on his own projects and commissions, and for theater and film sets. After working for five years as a sculptor, Lars joined the School of Arts in Zurich to acquire a degree in the fine arts. Since 2015 Lars has lived with his Canadian wife in the West Kootenays, where he works as a sculptor and illustrator.
