Okanagan Walk In Her Shoes – Saturday, March 9, 2019

Women and girls in developing countries must walk an average of 10,000 steps every day to collect the basics their families need to survive – water, food and firewood. This leaves them little time to get an education or earn an income.

CARE Canada’s Walk In Her Shoes challenge will ask Canadians to walk in solidarity with these women and girls and take 10,000 steps to raise funds and awareness to help break the cycle of poverty.

Last year more than one thousand participants took part in the Walk In Her Shoes challenge across Vancouver, Kelowna, Calgary, Edmonton and Ottawa as well as through our virtual campaign.

Funds raised will support CARE projects that fight poverty and promote gender equality so women and girls have the opportunity to reach their full potential. This means girls can spend more time in school, women have a chance to earn an oncome, and together they will lift their communities out of poverty.

The Okanagan Walk In Her Shoes Challenge
In celebration of International Women’s Day (March 8), CARE Canada will challenge those in the Okanagan, including local businesses, community groups, students and residents to come walk in support of women and girls world wide. On Saturday March 9, 2019 participants and their families will attend the 4th annual event at Mission Creek Park in Kelowna which includes an inspiring community 10,000 step walk (or trail run option), fun interactive learning activities, snacks and prizes.
