In With The Old
Saskatchewan’s IWTO seamlessly combine raw talent and prairie camaraderie with a passion and respect for the music from the past. Young and dedicated, they take an extremely unique approach to memorable old-tyme music through gifted harmonies and infectious songwriting – and though the songs and stories they tell are filtered with a small town perspective – these kids see through a colourful, worldly lens. Though more than proficient on their traditional bluegrass instruments and expert all-night campfire jammers at bluegrass festivals, this young trio, whose skilled performances belie their age, have been called a crossover band more than once. Though highly influenced by great traditional bluegrass and old-time artists like the Carter Family and the Stanley Brothers, they take cues from countless artists in ranging genres, from rockabilly to swing to 60s folk to punk.
*2/3 of the group will be on tour in Western Canada the last two weeks of July, with a rhythm section in tow.*
The Maple Keys
Kelowna-based husband/wife duo The Maple Keys have bluegrass on the mind. But they also have a penchant for a killer rock song, or a melodic folk-ballad. Featuring furious flat-picked guitar, tightly executed harmonies and the rhythm of a speeding train on the ukulele, along with the occasional surprise, this duo blends foot-stompers and mesmerizing duets into a crowd-pleasing event.
